Men's Tennis Falls To New Mexico State

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team was defeated by New Mexico State, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Oaktree Country Club in Edmond, Okla. It was the Sooners (0-1) first and the Roadrunners (1-2) third dual match of the 2000 season.

In singles action, the Sooners picked up both of their points with straight-set wins. Senior Charlie Roberson defeated Cesar Obieta 7-5, 6-0. Freshman Tobias Kronlein picked up his second win as a Sooner beating Julien Ferchaud 6-3, 6-3.

New Mexico State was victorious in four singles matches that each went three sets. At the No. 1 position, NMSU's Marc Legris came back to beat senior Dusty Beard 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Rick Warren was edged by Jens Bolleyer 5-7, 7-6, 7-5. Senior Jeremy Dunham fell to NMSU's Alvaro Dominquez 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. NMSU's Ben Newcombe rallied to beat junior transfer Julio Martinez 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In doubles action, the Roadrunners claimed the doubles point as they won all three matches.
