Womens Tennis Completes Regular Season at Colorado

NORMAN, Okla. - The 1999 regular season will come to a close this weekend for the 54th-ranked Oklahoma womens tennis team when they compete at No. 30 Colorado for their final match. The Sooners are a combined 13-9 and 6-4 in the Big 12 after dropping their last two conference matches. Winners of six straight, the Buffaloes sport an overall record of 18-5 and are 7-2 in the league.

OU, who moved up two spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, picked up their sixth conference victory on Saturday against Texas Tech winning 7-2. Oklahoma enters the Colorado match after a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to in-state rival Oklahoma State in its latest contest. With the loss, OU ties OSU for sixth place in the Big 12 standings. Sophomore Viviana Mracnova is currently ranked 81st by the ITA and holds an overall record of 13-11 while splitting time at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.

CU stands tied with three other Big 12 schools for second place in the Big 12, right behind conference-leader Texas. The Buffaloes look to extend their current win streak by posting wins over the Sooners and the Cowgirls this weekend. The streak includes wins over three ranked opponents: No. 72 Nebraska (7-2), No. 47 Baylor (7-2) and No. 43 Kansas (5-4). Colorados duo of Jessica Garrow and Sandra Fischer entered the latest ITA poll ranked at No. 50 in doubles.

After this weekends match, both teams will begin preparations for the Big 12 Conference Championships which are set to begin on April 29, in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M will host this years Mens and Womens Tennis Championships.
