Womens Tennis Falls To In-State Rival

STILLWATER, Okla. - No. 67 Oklahoma State took two out of three in doubles action to pull out a 5-4 victory over 56th-ranked Oklahoma today in Stillwater. After splitting the singles and first two doubles matches, OSU secured the win when Martina Hautova and Lenka Humenikova defeated Angela Stroup and Jennie Hamilton, 8-5, at the No. 3 doubles spot to gain the decisive point. The loss drops the Sooners to 13-9 overall and 6-4 in the Big 12. With the win, the Cowboys rebound from a recent conference loss to improve their overall record to 14-6 and 6-4 in the league.

The beginning of the match was kept close as the two teams split the singles competition. OUs Raluca Gheorghe opened the contest by winning 6-2, 6-4, over Maria Galoustova at the No. 1 position. Although Oklahoma suffered losses at the second, third and fourth slots, Jennie Hamilton accomplished a three set victory against Ashleigh Dolman 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 5, and Angela Stroup was victorious at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2, versus Cameron Stoudt, to tie the match at three all.

The Cowboys pulled away from the Sooners by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. At the No. 1 doubles match, OUs Gheorghe and Danielle Knipp pushed Dolman and Galoustova to an extra game before losing 9-7. Viviana Mracnova and Kristin Guilford notched the lone doubles victory for the Sooners with a 8-5 win over Dominika Olszewska and Marketa Chemlova.

Oklahoma closes out the regular season with a 10 a.m. match at No. 36 Colorado on Saturday.
