Oklahoma Snaps Baylor Win Streak

NORMAN, Oklahoma - The 61st-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team upset No. 47 Baylor, 6-3, today to capture their fourth conference victory on the season. The win improves the Sooners to 11-6 overall, and 4-1 in Big 12 action. Baylor, who had won their four previous matches, falls to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in conference action.

The Sooners recorded upset victories in two singles matches as senior Raluca Gheorghe defeated 66th ranked Jahnavi Parekh 6-3, 6-2. OU's 63rd ranked Viviana Mracnova wasted no time in claiming a two set victory over 53rd ranked Katja Kovac, 6-2, 7-6. The Sooners picked up their third win in singles action when senior Danielle Knipp recorded a 6-2, 7-6 win over Hortensia Hernadez.

OU closed out the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Gheorghe and Knipp paired up to win their fourth doubles match on the season to push their overall record to 4-1 and 3-0 in Big 12 play. The duo earned an 8-5 victory over Kovac and Parekh. Mracnova and Kristin Guilford kept their flawless doubles record intact with their fifth win, an 8-3 victory over Karin Anderson and Pauolo Stephen. In the third match OU's Jennie Hamilton and Angela Stroup combined to pick up their seventh win this spring (7-3) by posting a 8-2 victory over Hernandez and Claudia Aguilar

The Sooners return to the court Friday, April 9, as they travel to Ames, Iowa to face the Cyclones. The match is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
