Norman, Okla. - Oklahomas mens tennis team will resume play as they hit the road to battle Big 12 foe Nebraska on Fri., April 16, at 1 p.m. at the Cather-Pound Tennis Courts in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners look to improve their season record of 12-12, while Nebraska stands at 7-10.
With only three Big 12 dual matches remaining, the netters will look to capitalize over conference opponents starting with junior Dusty Beard at the No. 1 position. Beard has had two years of decorated honor when its comes to the conference. He will look to find his place among the elite on this years All-Big 12 Conference Team. In 1997, Beard was named to the doubles list with former teammate Chris Barkla, and the following year he was given the honor of being listed on the all-conference singles team.
Nebraska, who is 2-3 in conference action, has waited for a rematch against the Sooners 6-0 run over the Huskers last season. Precaution will be taken in this meeting with two of NUs top players. No. 2 singles player Lance Mills, who is 10-6 in singles action, is recovering from a broken ribcage. This injury caused Mills to sit out of the 5-2 loss to Tulsa on March 28. OUs Charlie Roberson will look to benefit at the No. 2 match up. Nebraskas No. 4 Juan Hamden returned to the team after missing four weeks due to a dislocated shoulder. Still not injury ridden, he will take his place in the lineup against Rick Warren. Sanchez will look to add to his 14-2 record against Warren 8-4 record at this slot.
