OU Men's Tennis To Battle Baylor

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team will resume play as they travel into the Lone Star state to battle Baylor on Sat., April 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The Sooners look to improve their record of 10-11, while Baylor stands at 16-1 on the season.

Oklahoma won one of its toughest matchups of the season last Friday. The netters rallied to defeat No. 42 Kansas 5-2 in Norman. For the first time on the season, the Sooners were able to take the win after losing the point in doubles. OU's 29th-ranked duo of Charlie Roberson and Rick Warren handed KU's Ed Dus and Kenny Powell an 8-4 loss at the No.1 doubles slot. Oklahoma then took five of six singles matches after losing the doubles point . Sooners to advance past their opponents in singles were Dusty Beard, Warren, Roberson, Jeremy Dunham and Jave Rush. Highlighting at the No.1 position was Beard. Beard left the contest against Region V's top ranked player Luis Uribe, who is also ranked 21st nationally, with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 win. The Sooners hope to pick up their second conference win against Baylor. OU will look to even the score against Baylor's 6-1 win over the squad last season.

Baylor, who ranks third in the nation, took its first loss on the season against No. 21 Tennessee by a score of 4-3. The Bears left the match up to make a clean sweep of its weekend tour of the Southeast with a 6-1 win over South Alabama and a 5-1 decision over Furman last Monday. Leading the pack is junior Johann Jooste. Jooste is listed as the 25th nationally-ranked player and is tied with teammate Paul Gajdzik for the position. Jooste will take on Beard or Roberson of OU at the No.1 slot. Another Baylor player making the national rankings is David Hodge, who is tied for the 100th slot.
