TULSA, Okla.-- Three Sooners were in action Tuesday at the ITA All-American, with Sergey Avdeyev advancing to the third round of singles qualifying play.
Avdeyev clinched a spot in third round play by rallying to defeat Drake's Maor Zirkin, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6). After dropping the first three games in the third set, Avdeyev was able to storm back taking seven of the next 10 to take the set in a tiebreaker.
Avdeyev continues qualifying play Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. against ITA No. 50 Lucas Jovita of South Florida at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Fellow Sooner Ionut Beleleu was not as fortunate, falling to Florida's Carlos Cuento in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The loss snapped Beleleu's fall singles win streak at seven. T
he Sooner doubles team of Beleleu and Andrei Daescu lost their first round match as Tim Puetz and Alexey Tsyrenov of Auburn downed them 8-6.
The loss marks Beleleu's exit from the ITA All-American, while Daescu will begin play in the singles main draw on Thursday.
All matches for the main draw will be played at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Matchups and times will be released Wednesday afternoon.
