NORMAN — The historic freshman season for Oklahoma Softball's
Kendall Wells continued in full force last week as the first-year standout added Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week honors Tuesday, April 21 as announced by the league.
Wells, who has been named D1Softball National Player of the Week twice and SEC Player of the Week once, earns her first SEC Freshman of the Week honor. She shares this week's accolade with Florida's Townsen Thomas.
The Bogart, Ga., native hit .455 with six runs, three homers and 7 RBIs, while making 20 putouts and two assists behind the dish. She tied OU legend Jocelyn Alo for the most home runs in a season in program history with her 34th Sunday against No. 6 Arkansas.
Wells is hitting .385 with 61 runs, 34 home runs, 76 RBIs and a 1.119 slugging percentage in 47 games played as a true freshman.
Her and the Sooners near more history as they prepare for tonight's game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a three-game series against No. 11 Georgia this weekend. Wells would set the OU single-season home run record with her next roundtripper, and would set a new NCAA single-season home run record with four more. As a team the Sooners need four home runs to set a new team single-season home run record.
