NORMAN — The Oklahoma track and field team found success Friday at the Oklahoma Classic, highlighted by a new school record in the women's weight throw from
Kennedy Clarke, and three additional marks in OU's top 10 performance list.
Clarke, a senior, improved her mark at No. 1 in school history with her toss of 21.70m (71'2.50") in the women's weight throw, good for No. 14 in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC.
In the men's weight throw, senior
Brendon See improved his mark at No. 2 in school history with his throw of 21.39m (70'02.25), while junior
Connor Jones marked 18.67m (61'03.00) to improve his mark at No. 8 in OU history.
In women's pole vault, freshman
Lilly Samanski cleared 4.10m (13'5.250") for a personal best and No. 10 in school history.
In her season debut,
Gabi Barrera took the women's mile title with a time of 4:59.05.
The men's distance medley relay finished in 9:59.82.
Ahmed Kadri ran the first leg in 2:59.71, followed by
Keith Griffin III in 48.36.
Carlos Tello completed the third leg in 1:54.86, before handing off to
Hayden Gray to finish in 4:16.90.
Sophomore
Niqualas Chew posted a personal best time of 6.89 for third in the men's 60-meter finals.
In the women's shot put, redshirt sophomore
Tyley Dotson tossed 14.95m (49'00.75) for second, while junior Maggie Mullings followed just behind with 14.84m (48'08.25) for third.
Sooners took home meet titles in both the men's and women's 600m, as
Carlos Tello (1:13:56) and
Gladys David Mumbe (1:23:64) led the way in their respective events.
Julian McCullough took first in the men's high jump with his clearance of 2.11m (6'11.00").
In the men's shot put, Andrew Heinig notched a first-place finish with his final throw of 18.01m (59'1.25").
The Sooners return to action next weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 13-14, while a small group of distance athletes will compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 13-14.
