COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up opening day of the SEC Indoor Championships on Thursday at the R.A. "Murray" Fasken '38 Indoor Track and Field Facility. The women sit in 11th place with 4.5 points, while the men are also 11th with four points.
The combined events opened competition for the Sooners, with two athletes competing in the pentathlon. Senior Ally Stephenson scored a personal-best 3,970 points, ranking fifth in OU history, while Kennedy Jackson recorded 3,929 points to move to sixth all-time in program history. In the 60-meter hurdles portion of the pentathlon, Jackson clocked an 8.43, tying for 10th in OU history.
On the track, freshman Domtila Cheruto delivered a record-breaking performance in the women's 5,000 meters, finishing 10th in 15:41.78 to set a new indoor school record. It marks the second school record Cheruto has been a part of in the past two weeks after helping the women's distance medley relay team set a new program mark in Fayetteville, Ark.
Fellow freshman Jordan Atkinson recorded a personal-best 24.19 in the 200 meters.
In the field events, Jacelyn Neighbors cleared 4.15m (13'7.25") to finish tied for fourth in the women's pole vault, contributing 4.5 points to the team total. Kennedy Stringfellow added four points on the men's side with a fifth-place leap of 7.82m (25'8.00") in the long jump.
The Sooners return to action Friday at 11 a.m. CT with the women's weight throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT with the women's mile prelims, as Oklahoma looks to gain ground in the team standings.
