Sooners in Seventh After 36 Holes at Norman Regional
May 05, 2025 | Women's Golf
NORMAN – After 36 holes at the NCAA Norman Regional, Oklahoma women's golf sits in seventh place, just one shot back of the top-five cut at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. A strong final round on Tuesday could send the Sooners to their 10th NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2018.
The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday afternoon, pending weather conditions. At the conclusion of play, the top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, slated for May 16–21 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The top individual from a non-advancing team will also earn a spot at nationals.
"We didn't play as well as we would've liked to today, but we put ourselves in a position to get the job done," head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "We had some good moments out there, especially in the afternoon, and we'll need to play well in the final round to do what we want to do."
Oklahoma (7, +3) played well on the front nine in both of Monday's rounds and will enter Tuesday's final 18 just one shot off the qualifying mark. Senior Reagan Chaney (T14, E) leads the Sooners, carding rounds of 75 and 69 to stay even through 36 holes. Her five birdies in round two marked a team-high.
Junior Savannah Barber (T25, +2) follows in the top 25. She opened with a 71, the only under-par round by a Sooner in the morning, before closing with a 75 that included two double bogeys.
Juniors Gracie Mayo (T32, +3) and MaKayla Tyrrell (T32, +3), along with freshman Audrey Rischer (T32, +3), are tied for 32nd. Mayo and Rischer turned in second-round scores of 71 and 70, respectively, while Tyrrell posted an even-par 72 in the opening round.
Top-ranked Stanford leads the field, five strokes ahead of second-place Northwestern. Also inside the top five are Michigan State, Baylor, Tulsa, and North Carolina. In the event of a tie, playoff procedures will determine the advancing teams.
