Langley, Thomas Earn USTFCCCA Regional Awards

March 21, 2025 | Track and Field

NORMAN – Oklahoma Head Track and Field Coach James Thomas and Associate Head Coach Jerel Langley picked up USTFCCCA Division I Midwest Regional awards, the association announced Thursday, for their leadership during the 2025 indoor season. Thomas was named Women's Coach of the Year and Langley was tabbed Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

This marks Thomas' first coach of the year accolade, having won 11 USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year awards during his tenure at Georgia (2021-23) and Texas Tech (2013-21). Langley, in his ninth year at OU, collects the second regional assistant coach of the year honor of his career. In 2023, he earned the award for his athletes' remarkable performances during the outdoor season.

In just his second season at the helm of OU T&F, Thomas directed the Sooner women to a fourth-place finish at the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Championships, the highest in program history. He guided Agur Dwol to OU's first NCAA triple jump title and four more athletes to six total First Team All-America honors.

Langley's group posted 16 out of 31 team points at the NCAA Indoor Championships, helping the women to fourth on the national stage. All three of his athletes secured top-five finishes, including a bronze medal from Pippi Lotta Enok (pentathlon) and Olivia Lueking (pole vault), and fifth place from Angel Richmore (pentathlon).

At their first SEC Indoor T&F Championships, Thomas led the women to second place, their best finish at a conference meet in over 15 years. The Sooners secured three conference titles, two runner-up finishes and 12 total scores.

Langley's group added 30 points to the final team score of 62 at the conference meet to help the women claim second place. He coached Enok to an exceptional gold-medal performance in the pentathlon at SECs, one that broke her native country, Estonia's, national record and ranked fourth in the world at the time. He assisted Lueking to the second conference title of her career and got scores from Angel Richmore and Tessani Foster.

Thomas racked up exceptional numbers during the indoor regular season, posting 10 school records, 34 top-10 performances in OU history, 21 event wins and 120 personal records from the women's team.

Between Lueking and Enok, Langley collected three top-25 performances in NCAA history. Most notably, Enok's No. 5 all-time pentathlon score (4,593) on Feb. 27 and Lueking's No. 12 all-time pole vault clearance (4.59m (15'0.25")) on Feb. 15.
