Akins, Enok Victorious on Day One of SEC Indoor Championships

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Jasmine Akins and Pippi Lotta Enok claimed the Oklahoma track & field team's first SEC Indoor Championships titles in program history at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken Indoor Track & Field Thursday. The women's team concluded day one in second place with 31 points and the men closed in sixth with a score of 16.5.
The Sooners earned points from five women's athletes, Pippi Lotta Enok (10), Jasmine Akins (10), Angel Richmore (6), Leah Jeruto (4) and Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi (1) and three men's competitors, Nikaoli Williams (8), Colton Rhodes (5.5) and Shadrack Kiptoo (3).
Enok's title-winning performance in the pentathlon goes beyond the Southeastern Conference, with her career-best 4,593 points shattering Estonia's, her native country, national record and moving her to No. 5 all-time in NCAA history. Her count is fourth in the world and first in the NCAA in 2025.
Enok's achievement was helped by four personal records in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and long jump. She posted two marks in the top 10 of Oklahoma indoor history, LJ (No. 2) and HJ (No. 5) and smashed her former school record set on Jan. 31. She becomes the first women in Oklahoma history to win two indoor conference championships in a combined event.
Akins secured her title with a near-school record, registering 6.62m (21'8.75") to win the long jump. She becomes the first Sooner woman to win a conference championship in the event since Ti'Anca Mock in 2009. Teammate Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi also provided the Sooners one point toward the team count with an eighth-place finish in the LJ (6.14m).
Also in the combined events, Angel Richmore grabbed a bronze medal in the pentathlon. She posted a PR in the shot put (14.60m (47'10.75")), the best toss by a pentathlon athlete in SEC Indoor Championships history, and a season-best clearance in the high jump (1.78m (5'10.00"). Richmore's final score of 4,271 is sixth in the NCAA in 2025.
The men's team added two podium finishes from Colton Rhodes and Nikaoli Williams. Williams took second overall in the long jump with a 7.89m (25'10.75") leap and Rhodes tied for third in the pole vault. His 5.35m (17'6.50") clearance ranks ninth in OU history.
Distance duo of Leah Jeruto and Shadrack Kiptoo also bolstered the Sooners' day one team totals with top-eight finishes in the 5,000-meter run. Jeruto broke the indoor program record by 12 seconds, clocking 15:46.33 for fifth place to gain four points. Shadrack Kiptoo ran 13:47.72 for sixth place and three points.
Oklahoma's Nicolas Bersier will continue the heptathlon Friday after securing a PR in the shot put (11.80m (38'8.75")) and high jump (1.90m (6'2.75")) Thursday evening, wrapping up the day sixth with 3,035 points.
The women's distance medley relay, consisting of Abby Jepchirchir, Kel McDavid, Jenna James and Lily Baker, raced to 11:21.91 for the third-best time in OU history to close out the night.
