SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
No. 24 Baylor: Baylor enters the weekend 3-2 after defeating Abilene Christian, Purdue and Villanova. The Bears dropped a 10-7 decision to No. 8 Texas A&M and a 6-4 final to Utah State in College Station, Texas. Infielder Shaylon Govan was tabbed to the Preseason All-Big 12 team after earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First Team All-American honors last season. Catcher Turiya Coleman also earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 list. The Bears earned an at-large bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, taking two games against Louisiana and one against Florida before falling in the Gainesville Regional Final. Baylor is ranked No. 23 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll, No. 24 in the Softball America poll and No. 23 in the NFCA poll.
Hofstra: Hofstra has yet to play a game during the 2025 season, although they'll play their opener against Baylor Friday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Pride went 23-26 and 17-10 in the Colonial Athletic Association a season ago before being bounced by top-seeded Campbell, 1-0, in nine innings. Catcher Olivia Malinowski and utility option Gabby Sultan were both selected to the CAA Preseason All-Conference Team. Hofstra was tabbed to finish fifth in the CAA Preseason Poll.
HEAD-TO-HEAD HISTORY
Baylor: OU and Baylor are long-standing rivals, having played 90 games against one another. The first-ever meeting was Sept. 21, 1979 in Denton, Texas, with the Bears winning, 2-0. OU has fared well in Waco, going 26-6 while having swept the last series in Waco back in 2023. Oklahoma is 76-14 all-time against Baylor.
Hofstra: OU and Hofstra are playing for the fourth time, with the Sooners leading the series, 2-1. The Pride won the first meeting by a score of 1-0 March 1, 1996 in Columbus, Ga. OU followed up with a 17-3 win in Clearwater, Fla., Feb. 16, 2019 and an 11-0 shutout-win in the 2023 Norman Regional.
FIRST AT-BAT, FIRST HOME RUN
Junior outfielder
Abigale Dayton homered in her first at-bat as a Sooner, doing so in the victory against Cal State Northridge in the season opener Feb. 6. The last time a Sooner homered in their first-career at-bat was when
Kasidi Pickering launched a grand slam against Utah Valley last February. OU graduate assistant coach and four-time All-American,
Tiare Jennings, also completed the feat, launching a two-run home run in her first-career at-bat against UTEP in 2021. Dayton came up clutch to cap the weekend, diving to make a catch and rob Long Beach State of a run, while also providing the game-winning RBI with a two-out double in the 11th inning.
FAMILIAR FOES
The last time that Hofstra played, the Pride went up against current OU hurler,
Isabella Smith, in the 2024 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Softball Tournament. Smith held the Pride scoreless in a shutout performance in that game. Additionally, Oklahoma pitcher
Sam Landry took on the Baylor Bears in the 2024 Gainesville Region as a member of the Louisiana pitching staff.
STARTING OFF WITH PERFECTION
Redshirt-senior and transfer
Isabella Smith spun a five-inning perfect game in her first-career start with the Sooners. Smith fanned six batters and didn't allow a baserunner during an 8-0 win against Cal Baptist Feb. 7. The 22nd perfect game in OU Softball history, it was the first complete game perfect game by an OU pitcher in their first start as a Sooner. For the weekend she spun 12.2 scoreless frames, striking out 12 while permitting only two hits.
HOMETOWN HOMER
Los Angeles, Calif., native
Ella Parker homered in the return to her hometown, launching a solo shot to center field in OU's 9-0 win against Loyola Marymount last Saturday. That wasn't Parker's only big moment as she hit .591 and slugged .955 in OU's 6-0 swing in California. Parker was tied for the NCAA Division I lead in hits (13) and doubles (five) as of Monday, Feb. 10. That same day she was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Co-Player of the Week, the first to earn the honor in OU history.
FIRST AIRPLANE AROUND THIRD
Six different Sooners hit their first-career home run last weekend, including Dayton,
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas,
Isabela Emerling,
Gabbie Garcia,
Tia Milloy and
Sydney Barker. Of that group, Emerling and Milloy homered twice, while Emerling and Garcia also launched their first grand slam. OU hit 12 home runs over six games, slugging .575 as a team.
FLASH THE LEATHER
OU's defense was sharp to start the season as the Sooners committed only one error in 188 chances with the glove, good for a .995 fielding percentage. Oklahoma turned six double plays, including two timely turns in the win against Long Beach State.
STRIKEOUT-SAM
Senior right-handed pitcher
Sam Landry struck out 23 batters in 15 innings in California, going 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA and a save against Cal State Fullerton. Landry punched out 11 in a no-decision against (RV) San Diego State, while working a complete game shutout against Loyola Marymount.
LOCKDOWN LEFTIES
Left-handed pitchers
Kierston Deal and
Audrey Lowry combined to go 2-0 with just four earned runs across 17 innings last weekend. Deal took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Long Beach State, while Lowry earned a win in her collegiate debut against (RV) San Diego State as well as a victory against Fullerton. Lowry fanned eight in 5.2 innings of relief across the opening weekend.

LANA JOINS THE SOONERS
Junior transfer
Ailana Agbayani was a big addition to the OU roster ahead of the 2025 season, coming to Norman after two big seasons at BYU. A native of Mililani, Hawai'i, Agbayani was a 2024 NFCA All-Region selection, hitting .424 as the Cougars' everyday shortstop. She also registered a 5-2 record in the circle, with 17 strikeouts. Sam Landry and
Isabella Smith are no strangers to big roles and big performances. Each was the ace on their respective teams last season. Landry joined OU after three stellar years at Louisiana and Smith arrived in Norman after three dominant years at Campbell. Together they have combined for 133 wins and 1,098 strikeouts in six seasons. Landry went 63-19 with a 2.12 ERA, two saves, 460 strikeouts and a .202 opponent batting average in three years for Louisiana.
