Year 3 of the Kish Era
Roger Kish was named the 16th head coach of the Oklahoma wrestling program on May 2, 2023, following a successful 12-year tenure at North Dakota State.
Now entering his third season at the helm, Kish has quickly established a foundation of competitiveness and culture in Norman. The Sooners have made steady progress in dual competition and recruiting alike, positioning the program for sustained success at the national level.
In In 2024–25, Oklahoma posted an 8-4 dual record, while its 4-4 Big 12 mark represented the program's first .500 or better conference finish since 2019. Five Sooners qualified for the NCAA Championships, matching the highest total in the Kish era.
In his debut season (2023–24), Kish led Oklahoma to a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Championships — the program's best in eight years — and coached Stephen Buchanan to his third All-America honor. Buchanan went 27-3 and placed third nationally at 197 pounds, marking OU's top individual NCAA finish since 2016.
Before arriving in Norman, Kish spent 12 seasons at North Dakota State, a Big 12 affiliate, where he compiled a 108-70 (.607) career dual record and guided the Bison to five straight winning seasons (48-20 combined). His teams produced a 50-30 (.625) mark in conference duals (33-26 in the Big 12, 17-4 in the Western Wrestling Conference) and closed his tenure with a .706 overall winning percentage and 21-7 dual record over his final two seasons.
