NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head track and field/cross country coach
James Thomas announced the addition of 29 members to the program's 2024-25 roster on Friday.
The 2024 signing class, composed of 15 freshmen and 14 transfers, boasts 11 NCAA All-America honors, a NCAA D-III national title, five individual conference championships, 11 conference medals, five international titles, 31 international championship appearances and 18 high school state titles.
"This signing class holds great significance as we transition as a program into the SEC. Our staff put in tremendous effort to make additions that align with the short and long-term vision of all six of our groups," stated head coach
James Thomas. "This class is comprised of students from multiple states and countries, but our main focus was finding individuals with a common culture."
Ten newcomers are based out of Oklahoma, eight will migrate from Texas and five athletes relocate from California, Florida, Iowa, Michigan and Nevada. Four countries are represented in the 2024 class: Austria, Australia, Kenya and Switzerland.
"We sought out driven and motivated student-athletes with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. I am excited to see this group lay the foundation for the future," added Thomas.
The distance squad welcomes 13 athletes, the jumps crew adds six, the sprints and throws group total four additions each and international duo of
Nicolas Bersier and
Melissa Wullschleger join the combined events. All newcomers will compete for the Sooners during the 2024 cross country or 2024-25 track and field season.
