Women’s Tennis Wraps up Pre-Qualifying at ITA All-Americans

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team concluded the pre-qualifying round of the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday evening at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Senior Ava Catanzarite earned a trio of wins across the first two days, defeating Isabella Chhiv of Princeton (7-6(6), 6-1), Raquel Caballero Chica of TCU (6-1, 6-1) and Georgia Tech's Taly Licht (6-2, 6-4) to advance to the qualifying round of the tournament.
Freshman Salakthip Ounmuang notched two wins in singles, defeating Leyla Britez Rissso of Tennessee, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, and Ellie Blackford (Michigan State), 6-4, 7-6(4) before dropping her round of 32 match to Eva Alvarez Sande (Washington State), 1-6, 7-6(8), 1-6.
Ounmuang and senior Emma Staker advanced through the first round of pre-qualifying doubles with a ranked win over No. 73 Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova (Hawaii), 6-1, 6-3. The duo was defeated by Florida's Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee, 6-7(6), 2-6, in the round of 16.
Catanzarite, Staker and freshman Chloé Noël will begin play in the qualifying round of singles on Monday. Noël will match up with Aysegul Mert (Georgia) at 8 a.m. CT, Catanzarite will compete against Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer (UCLA) at 11 a.m. CT and Staker will face off with Mao Mushika (Cal) at 12:30 p.m. CT.
