NORMAN — Oklahoma freshman Evialina Laskevich was named SEC Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Competing at the No. 1 singles position and No. 2 doubles, Laskevich went 4-0 on the weekend to lead Oklahoma to a pair of ranked victories at the Headington Family Tennis Center, highlighted by a 4-1 win over No. 1 Georgia in one of the biggest wins in program history.
The Minsk, Belarus, native delivered the match-clinching victory against No. 27 South Carolina, earning a straight-set win over No. 56 Kaitlyn Carnicella, 6-4, 6-1. She also contributed in doubles alongside fellow freshman Edda Mamedova, securing a 6-1 victory over Carnicella and Taylor Goetz.
In Sunday's matchup against No. 1 Georgia, Laskevich and Mamedova picked up a marquee doubles win, defeating the Bulldogs' No. 7-ranked duo of Deniz Dilek and Aysegul Mert, 6-2. Laskevich followed with another ranked singles victory, taking down No. 28 Anastasiia Lopata, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the match and secure Oklahoma's second-ever win over a top-ranked opponent.
This marks Laskevich's first career SEC Player of the Week honor and her second SEC weekly award this season after earning SEC Co-Freshman of the Week recognition on March 11. She becomes the first Sooner to earn SEC Player of the Week honors since Oklahoma joined the conference.
Laskevich has now won nine consecutive singles matches, improving to 12-3 overall this season. She also holds an 11-1 doubles record alongside Mamedova. Her recent performances propelled her to No. 10 in the latest ITA singles rankings and No. 17 in doubles.
With five top-25 wins already secured, the Sooners will look to add another quality victory to their resume when they travel to face No. 11 Vanderbilt on Thursday at 5 p.m.
