NORMAN – The No. 2-ranked Oklahoma softball team dropped game one of Bedlam Presented by Phillips 66, falling 6-3 to No. 4/4 Oklahoma State on Friday evening at Love's Field.
Oklahoma (45-5, 21-4 Big 12) managed just three hits while drawing eight walks, leaving eight runners on base as OSU (43-8, 20-5 Big 12) became the second team to out-hit the Sooners in 2024. OU's loss coupled with a Texas win in Lubbock draws the two clubs into a tie for first place in the Big 12 standings with Oklahoma State a game behind both teams entering the final two contests of the regular season.
Jayda Coleman reached three times out of the leadoff spot, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
Kasidi Pickering (1-for-4, RBI) and
Alynah Torres (1-for-3, 2B) added the other two Oklahoma hits.
Tiare Jennings drew a walk to extend her on-base streak to 29 games.
OU's patience at the plate coaxed four walks in the first inning, culminating in a
Kinzie Hansen (0-for-3, BB, RBI) bases-loaded free pass to open the scoring. The Sooners added a run in the second on an RBI infield single off the bat of Pickering, plating
Rylie Boone (0-for-3, R).
Oklahoma State responded with two runs in the third to knot things at two, then added a run in the fourth before plating three in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The Sooners cut their deficit to three with an unearned run in the sixth, but the damage was done as the OSU ace closed things out with a scoreless seventh.
Karlie Keeney provided OU with 2.1 innings of strong relief, retiring each of the seven she faced with one strikeout.
The Sooners' three hits marked the club's second-lowest output of the season.
