Sooners Top OSU to Open The Match Play at Jimmie Austin

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's golf finished stroke play as the No. 1 seed and topped in-state foe Oklahoma State, 4-1, opening the match play portion of The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Sophomore Savannah Barber cruised in the first 18 holes, finishing a tournament-best 5-under 67. Barber recorded seven birdies and was the only golfer to finish in the 60s.
Junior Reagan Chaney and senior Nina Lang tied for third (1-under, 71), and sophomore Isabelle Schlick tied for 10th (1-over 73), helping the Sooners secure the No. 1 seed. Sophomore Gracie Mayo completed the OU lineup, tying for 35th (7-over, 79).
The Sooners opened the first of three match play rounds against OSU and continued their dominance, winning four matches 2-up or greater. Lang and Chaney each claimed 3-up victories over Thitaporn Saithip and Angelica Pfefferkorn, respectively. Schlick and Barber secured the team win, finishing 2-up against Ellie Bushnell and Sammie Miller. Mayo dropped the lone match, falling to Silchenko 2-up.
Lang raced out to a three-hole advantage through the first four holes before Saithip battled back, winning the fifth, sixth and seventh holes and moving the match back to even. The two went shot-for-shot and entered the 13th hole all square. Lang won the 13th and 15th before earning the match victory on the 16th.
Chaney and Pfefferkorn were even through seven before she gave OU its largest advantage to close out the front nine, winning the eighth and ninth holes. Pfefferkorn won the ninth and Chaney responded, winning the 10th and moving back to a two-hole advantage. OSU cut it back to one on the 12th before the Ardmore, Okla., product pushed her lead back to two with a win on the 13th. Chaney closed out the match on the 16th.
Barber and Miller were locked in a battle and tied through the 13th hole. The Fort Worth, Texas product won the 14th and claimed victory on the 17th.
Schlick dominated the opening portion of her match, holding a 5-hole through the 10th. OSU's Bushnell battled back and narrowed the deficit to two with three holes remaining. The Bad Homburg, Germany, product concluded the match on the 17th.
