Barber, Chaney in Top 20 After Big 12 Championship Opening Round

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma women's golf concluded the opening round of the Big 12 Championship on Thursday, tying for 10th (17-over, 301) after the first 18 holes at Houston Oaks.
Sophomore Savannah Barber led the Sooners and tied for 12th, firing a 1-over 72. Barber opened her round with a birdie on No. 1 and finished the front nine 1-over 36. The Forth Worth, Texas, product dropped to 3-under through 13 with bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes. Barber capped her round with back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th before a par on the 18th hole.
Junior Reagan Chaney joined Barber in the top 20 and tied for 17th, carding a 2-over 73. Chaney tallied three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back on the fourth and fifth holes. The Ardmore, Okla., product wrapped up the front nine 3-over 38. Chaney tallied two additional birdies on the 11th and 14th, moving to 1-over through 14. She suffered a one-stroke setback on the 17th hole and concluded the round with a par. Her five birdies were the most by a Sooner.
Sophomore Isabelle Schlick and freshman Holly McLean tied for 53rd (7-over, 78). Schlick tallied three birdies, matching Barber for the second most by a Sooner. McLean recorded her lone birdie on the par-4 17th hole.
Sophomore Gracie Mayo enters the second round in 64th (13-over, 84).
