Duo in Top 20, Sooners T8th after 36 Holes in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oklahoma women's golf fired a 5-under 283 in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate and enter the final round tied for 8th (5-over, 581). The Sooners tied for the third-best round of the day with Arkansas.
Sophomore Gracie Mayo fired a team-low 6-under 66 on Saturday at The Preserve Golf Club, tying for 18th (even par, 144) and improving 12 strokes on her first-round score. Mayo opened the second round on the back nine and drained a birdie on the par-5 ninth. The Newport, Wales product suffered her lone setback on the 13th before recording birdies on the 15th and 17th holes, wrapping up the back nine 2-under 34. Mayo opened the front nine with three consecutive birdies and tallied her final birdie on the par-5 seventh, finishing the front nine 4-under 32.
"Gracie had a solid day and I'm proud of her," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "She continues to work hard and it's great to see it pay off."
Sophomore Savannah Barber fired a 2-under 70 and tied Mayo for 18th. Barber opened her round with a birdie and moved to 2-under after her second birdie on the 16th, finishing the back nine 2-under 34. The Fort Worth, Texas product recorded a double bogey on the first hole and responded with her third birdie on the par-4 second. Barber notched a birdie on the fifth hole before suffering a one-stroke setback on the seventh. She wrapped up her round with a birdie on the eighth and a par on the ninth, finishing even par 36 on the front.
"We had a great day as a team, and I'm proud of our team's fight," said Drouin-Luttrell. "We struggled yesterday, but challenged our players today and they rose to the opportunity."
Sophomore Isabelle Schlick and junior Reagan Chaney tied for 35th (3-over, 147). Schlick recorded three birdies in the second round and finished 1-over 73. Chaney tallied two birdies on the front nine and recorded a 2-over 74.
Senior Kaylee Vesely rounded out the group, tallying a 10-over 82. Vesely tied for 77th (15-over, 159).
