Sooners Second at Westbrook Invitational

Barber Tied for Sixth After the First 36 Holes
PEORIA, Ariz – Sophomore Savannah Barber fired rounds of 68-69 and tied for sixth (7-under, 137) and Oklahoma women's golf is second (22-under, 554) after the first 36 holes at the Westbrook Invitational on Sunday.
The Sooners recorded the third-best team total of the second round, firing a 10-under 278. Oklahoma is eight strokes behind tournament leader Kansas and six strokes up on Wisconsin, Kansas State, Missouri and Nebraska.
"We had a solid day and I'm proud of our team," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "The Westbrook Invitational is a fun tournament where you can go low and watch everyone rise to the challenge."
Barber opened the tournament with a 4-under 68, tallying seven birdies. The Fort Worth, Texas product recorded a bogey on her first hole before tallying four birdies in the next six. After a setback on the 12th, Barber wrapped up the back nine with three additional birdies.
She started the second round with a pair of pars before knocking in three birdies in her next four chances, including back-to-back on the eighth and ninth. Barber moved back to even after three consecutive setbacks on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. She responded with two straight birdies on her next two holes and wrapped up the round with a birdie on the first.
"Savannah had a great day and played very steady, making crucial putts down the stretch," said Drouin-Luttrell.
Junior Reagan Chaney and sophomore Isabelle Schlick are tied for 12th and 17th, respectively. Chaney fired the best opening round by a Sooner, finishing 5-under 67 with six birdies and one bogey. The Ardmore, Okla., product finished 1-under 71 in the second round with a trio of birdies. Schlick tallied rounds of 72-67, matching Chaney for a team-low single-round total. The Bad Homburg, Germany product tallied a team-high nine birdies in the second round.
Senior Kaylee Vesely tied for 32nd and tallied back-to-back rounds of 71. Vesely recorded five birdies through the first 36 holes.
Sophomore Gracie Mayo rounded out the OU lineup, tying for 39th and tallying rounds of 70-73. Mayo recorded the third-best tally in the opening round by a Sooner and notched six birdies, including four on the front nine.
Sophomore Emily Hun competed as an individual and tied for 12th. Hun tallied rounds of 68-70 and finished 4-under 138.
