Sooners T7th After Spartan Sun Coast Invitational Opening Round

SARASOTA, Fla. – Sophomore Gracie Mayo fired a 1-under 71 and Oklahoma women's golf tied for seventh (13-over, 301) after the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational opening round on Sunday.

The 15-team field was scheduled to play the first two rounds on Sunday, but due to heavy rain were only able to complete the first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

"The weather conditions were some of the toughest we have had to endure in a long time," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "Due to the heavy rain, it has been hard to play."

Mayo opened her round with a bogey on the eighth hole and finished the back nine 2-under 34. She drained her fourth birdie of the round and third consecutive on the first hole. Mayo suffered a one-stroke setback on the third and finished her round with four straight birdies. She enters the second round tied for fourth.

"Gracie played super well and it was great to see her battle the elements," said Drouin-Luttrell.

Sophomore Savannah Barber recorded three birdies in the first round and tied for 28th. After opening with a birdie on the seventh, she moved back to even with a birdie on the eighth hole. Barber moved to 1-under after her second birdie on the 11th. The Forth Worth, Texas product concluded the back nine 4-over 40 and gained back a stroke on the third hole with her third and final birdie.

Sophomore Isabelle Schlick and junior Reagan Chaney each fired a 5-over 77 and are tied for 37th. Schlick tallied her lone birdie on the second hole.

Senior Kaylee Vesely tallied two birdies and recorded a 7-over 79, tying for 57th.

"We look forward to completing the final 18 and wrapping up our spring opener," said Drouin-Luttrell.
