Tyrrell in First, Sooners in Third at Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Oklahoma women's golf finished the first 36 holes of the Jim West Challenge Sunday at Kissing Tree Golf Club, carding an 11-under 565 and finishing third. The Sooners are three strokes behind TCU and Houston, who are tied for first after firing a 14-under 563.

Junior MaKayla Tyrrell, competing as an individual, sits in first, firing an 8-under 136. The Southlake, Texas, product carded five birdies in a row on the sixth through 10th holes in the first round and finished her first 18 holes with nine birdies. Tyrrell fired four more birdies in the second round, tallying 13 birdies on the day. She concluded the second round with a 2-under 70.

Junior Gracie Mayo led the OU lineup, tallying rounds of 71-67 and tying for second (6-under, 138). Mayo tallied four birdies in the first round before firing an eagle on her first hole of round two. She recorded three birdies in the next five holes before three straight pars. After two bogeys in the next three holes, Mayo drained four straight birdies and ended her round with a double bogey.

Senior Reagan Chaney sits two spots behind Mayo, tying for fourth with a 5-under 137. Chaney opened play with a 4-under 68. She tallied two birdies in her first three holes before a bogey on the fourth. After eight straight pars, she moved to even on the 13th. Chaney capped her round with two birdies on the 14th and 16th holes and an eagle on the 17th. In the second round, she carded a 1-under 71 with three birdies.

Freshman Audrey Rischer tallied rounds of 68-75, tying for 19th. Rischer recorded five birdies in the first round, including back-to-back on the 17th and 18th holes. After opening the second round five over through the first 13 holes, she strung together three birdies in her next four, moving to 2-over before a bogey on the 18th.

Junior Savannah Barber recorded rounds of 73-74 and tied for 35th (3-over, 147). Barber tallied seven birdies through the first 36, including a pair of birdies on the 10th and 18th holes.

Junior Isabelle Schlick finished 5-over 149 and tied for 43rd, rounding out the OU lineup. Schlick recorded four birdies in each round.
