Savannah Barber and freshman
Holly McLean each carded an even-par 70 and Oklahoma women's golf tied for sixth (4-over, 284) to conclude the Schooner Fall Classic opening round at Belmar Golf Club. Barber and McLean are tied for 16th.
Barber led the Sooners at the Carmel Cup and continued her strong start to the fall. The Fort Worth, Texas product recorded back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, finishing the front nine 2-under 34. After setbacks on the 12th and 13th holes, Barber moved to 2-under with birdies on the 16th and 17th. She concluded her round with a double bogey on the 18th.
McLean opened her first round in the Crimson and Cream with a bogey and responded with a birdie on the third. She moved to 1-under through seven and tallied a pair of pars to conclude the front nine. McLean opened with a birdie on the 10th and dropped to 1-over through 13 after a trio of bogeys. The Grand Cayman product registered her fourth birdie of the round on the 15th and finished her first 18 with a trio of pars.
"We had some great moments today," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We have worked really hard on specific things as a team and it is finally starting to payoff. It's super important for us to stay in the present and focus on one shot and one hole at a time."
Senior
Nina Lang and junior
Reagan Chaney each fired a 2-over 72 and are tied for 34th. Lang tallied a bogey on the second hole and responded with a birdie on the third. After a bogey on the sixth, she wrapped up the front nine 1-over 37. Lang dropped a stroke on the 13th and concluded her round with five consecutive pars.
Chaney dropped two strokes on the opening hole and found her rhythm to conclude the front nine, firing three straight birdies to finish 1-under 35. The Ardmore, Okla., product opened the back nine with three pars and moved to one over after consecutive bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes. She finished her round with a bogey on the 18th.
Junior
Isabelle Schlick rounded out the OU lineup (3-over, 73) and is tied for 45th. Schlick dropped a stroke on the sixth and finished the first nine 1-over 37. After setbacks on the 13th and 16th holes, she recorded her lone birdie of the round on the 17th. Schlick concluded her day with a bogey.
Sophomore
Gracie Mayo and senior
Kaylee Vesely competed as individuals. Mayo is tied for 23rd (1-over, 72) and tallied a trio of birdies. Vesely tied for 81st (9-over 79).
