Turner Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma track and field senior Vernon Turner was named the men's Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Turner competed in the men's high jump event at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, where he leaped 7-2.5 (2.20m) for first place. His performance gives him the No. 1 spot in the Big 12 and he climbs to No. 5 in the NCAA.

The Yukon native is the program record holder for both indoor and outdoor high jump, as well as the 2022 NCAA Indoor High Jump National Champion. He is a 6x First-Team All American and took home the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Championship high jump title earlier this season.

The accolade marks Oklahoma's second weekly honor of the 2023 outdoor season and the third of Turner's career.

Next, the Sooners will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Twilight on May 5. The following weekend, OU will host the 2023 Big 12 Outdoor Championship at John Jacobs Field Complex, May 12-14.
