Sooners Earn Bedlam Victory in Big 12 Match Play

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Savannah Barber tallied a pair of victories and the Sooners earned a 3-2 win over in-state foe Oklahoma State at Big 12 Match Play on Saturday.
OU opened the day with the final round of pool play against Kansas and Kansas State. OU dropped its match against the Jayhawks (5-0) and earned a pair of wins versus the Wildcats. Barber tallied a 5 & 4 victory over KSU's Noa Van Beek and Emily Hun recorded the 1-up win over Remington Isaac.
OU and K-State each recorded 12.5 points through pool play and the Sooners advanced to the bracket portion of the event.
OU matched up with Oklahoma State. OSU's Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Han-Hsuan Yu earned 3 & 2 and 5 & 3 wins, respectively.
"We were down early against Oklahoma State and I'm really proud of our response on the back nine," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "It is important to stay in the moment in match play and we did a fantastic job closing matches against OSU."
Down two matches, Oklahoma tallied a trio of 2 & 1 victories. Barber, Mikhaela Fortuna and Kaylee Vesely each won their matches.
The Sooner trio opened their second round of the day on the 10th hole. Fortuna was tied through 13 holes and won on the fifth and sixth holes.
After the first two holes resulted in a tie against OSU's Hailey Jones, Barber won the 12th and 13th holes. She maintained her advantage throughout the match.
"Savannah has played really well this week," said Drouin-Luttrell. "She has been very solid and deserves each victory."
Barber finished her day 2-1 and earned her fourth victory at the event. Fortuna matched Barber with a team-high four wins and recorded a trio of victories on Friday.
Vesley and Rina Tatematsu were even through their first two holes and Tatematsu captured a one-hole advantage on the 12th. Vesely tied the match on the 15th and was one up through seven. The duo were all square through 12 holes and Vesely tallied consecutive wins on the fourth and fifth holes to reclaim the advantage.
