Rowing Finish Strong at Lake Wheeler Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Sooners leave Raleigh with five top three finishes after completing a two-day race slate this weekend.

Oklahoma's first varsity eight hit the water in round one on Friday morning against conference rival Tennessee. In a tight race, the Sooners chipped ahead the Lady Volunteers by 1.6 seconds to clinch third place.

Going into Friday afternoon, the Sooners' second varsity eight set out in a four-way matchup against Navy, UCF and Georgetown in round two of racing. With No. 14 Duke leading the charge and Miami falling in line, OU claims a third place finish.

In the final session of racing on Saturday, Oklahoma collects accolades within the first varsity four squad. The crew secures the highest placement of the weekend among all of OU's boats. In a race between Washington State, Miami, Boston College and Clemson, the Sooners breeze past their opponents to pull off a second place victory. Oklahoma's 1V4+ was only 10.2 seconds short of No. 19 Iowa in the end.

In all three rounds of racing, the second varsity four boat placed third at the conclusion of the weekend.

UP NEXT

The Sooners will close out their regular season in Oklahoma City on April 29 when they host Tulsa before the Big 12 Championship.
