Sooners Clinch Majority Wins in OKC to Close Out Regular Season
April 29, 2023 | Rowing
OKLAHOMA CITY – The OU rowing team closed out the 2023 regular season with major wins against Tulsa at the Boathouse District on Saturday.
The regatta featured five standard races, with the first and last heats of the day slated with two Oklahoma boats each.
The Sooners' 2V8+ and 2V4+ crews had close races in a back and forth battle against the Golden Hurricanes but in the last sprint, both boats edged ahead to secure the first place win.
"The 2V8+ really punched their ticket at the halfway mark," said head coach Sarah Trowbridge.
In the second and fourth races of the day, Oklahoma's 1V8+ and 1V4+ fought hard but came up short. Tulsa walked away with their two and only wins of the day in both races.
OU's third varsity eight, which features an all Novice squad, took a commanding lead against the Golden Hurricanes. The crew notched a time that was 8.8 seconds faster than Tulsa and left the water with the win.
"Today showed a lot of progress and great tenacity throughout the team. They are defining themselves as racers and we're looking forward to the upcoming championship and on to developing this young team."
