Rowing Earns Pair of Podium Finishes at SEC Championship

NORMAN — Oklahoma rowing wrapped up the SEC Rowing Championship on Sunday morning with a pair of top-three finishes and a fourth-place team showing on the waters of Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Competing in its second season as a member of the SEC, Oklahoma totaled 32 points across the six championship races to finish fourth overall behind No. 3 Tennessee, No. 1 Texas and No. 13 Alabama.

Oklahoma's 3V4+ continued its strong spring campaign in the opening race of the morning, taking third place to put the Sooners on the podium early in the regatta. The crew had consistently delivered results throughout the regular season, highlighted by a pair of victories at the Orlando Invitational and Lake Wheeler Invitational. The boat also helped Oklahoma open the spring with a podium finish at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on the same course earlier this season.

In the final race of the championship, Oklahoma's First Varsity Eight capped the day with another podium finish, taking third place in the 1V8+ grand final. The result matched last season's third-place finish in the inaugural SEC Rowing Championship and closed a consistent season for OU's top boat. Throughout the spring, the 1V8+ collected multiple race victories and podium finishes, including wins over No. 11 Michigan and Notre Dame at the Ohio State Spring Regatta, a first-place finish to open the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational and three podium finishes at the Lake Wheeler Invitational.

The Sooners previously raced on Melton Lake earlier this spring at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, where they collected six race wins and 15 top-three finishes over two days. Oklahoma also entered the SEC Championship coming off a season-best performance at the Lake Wheeler Invitational, recording 11 top-three finishes and one race victory in Raleigh, N.C.
