OU Blanks Weber State, No. 19 Auburn in OKC

March 18, 2023 | Softball

OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 1 Oklahoma took another two games on Saturday's day two of the Omni Hall of Fame Classic, outscoring opponents 30-0.

The Sooner bats were thriving on the day, launching five home runs and racking up 29 combined hits in the two games. OU beat Weber State 16-0 in the first contest before shutting out No. 19/22 Auburn 14-0 in the nightcap.

In game one, Oklahoma (26-1) put up a nine spot in the first inning and didn't look back, scoring at least one run in each ensuing frame. In the bottom of the first, OU scored by way of a Haley Lee two-run double, Kinzie Hansen two-run single, a WSU error, Jayda Coleman RBI groundout, Tiare Jennings RBI double and another run-scoring double from Lee.

The second inning saw four more OU runs on five hits. An RBI single from senior Alynah Torres opened the frame's scoring followed by a two-run blast from Sophia Nugent, the sophomore's fifth homer of 2023. A bases-loaded walk to sophomore Cydney Sanders plated the Sooners fourth run of the inning.

Oklahoma pushed a solo run across in the third before a two-run fourth inning. In the third, senior Rylie Boone reached on an error, allowing redshirt freshman Quincee Lilio to race home. Moving to the fourth, Torres plated OU's 13th and 14th runs of the contest on a two-RBI double down the left line.

In the circle, redshirt senior Alex Storako (W, 9-0) collected the win in three innings pitched with no hits, runs or walks to go with six strikeouts. Freshman Kierston Deal closed with two innings pitched and one hit and one walk allowed to accompany a pair of strikeouts.

Eleven Sooners recorded a hit in the contest, led by Lee's 3-for-3 day and Hansen's 3-for-4 showing. Lee and Torres paced OU with three RBIs each.

Turning around 30 minutes later to face their ninth ranked opponent of the season in No. 19/22 Auburn (22-8), Oklahoma raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first courtesy of three first inning homers.

Coleman led off the game with her seventh career leadoff home run on a ball that snuck around the right foul pole. Three batters later, Jennings followed suit with her fifth blast of the season on a two-run shot then senior Kinzie Hansen blasted a solo round-tripper for her fifth of the season.

After a scoreless second, OU plated five runs in each the third and fourth innings to put the game in mercy-rule territory. The third inning saw a bases-loaded walk to Lilio, Sanders two-run double and Coleman RBI single.

Brito started a two-out rally in the fourth with an RBI single before a Lilio RBI single scored Brito and senior captain Grace Lyons hit her second homer in as many days to bring the final to 14-0, Oklahoma.

Eight Sooners registered a hit with four having a multi-hit game. Coleman and Lyons led the team with three RBIs a piece.

OU's shutout counter on the season moved to 17 with a pair on the day and the Sooners earned their 15th and 16th wins by run-rule.

The top-ranked Sooners close the Omni Hall of Fame Classic with a Sunday rematch vs. Auburn at 2 p.m. CT. The game can be seen via SoonerVision on ESPN+ and heard via 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma and nationwide on The Varsity app.
