OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 1 Oklahoma completed the Omni Hall of Fame Classic sweep with a 7-1 win over No. 19/22 Auburn Sunday afternoon in OKC.
Redshirt senior pitcher Alex Storako twirled a gem in the circle, striking out an OU career-best 11 batters and surrendered just one run on two hits with one walk in five innings pitched. It was the super senior's first double-digit strikeout game in the Crimson and Cream.
OU's All-America trio of Jayda Coleman, Kinzie Hansen and Tiare Jennings all went yard in the contest to push the Oklahoma (27-1) win streak to 19 games.
After Auburn (22-9) got on the board in the first inning via a leadoff homer from Nelia Peralta, Storako settled in and retired 15 of the next 17 Tigers before giving way to sophomore Jordy Bahl in the sixth.
Following a scoreless second inning, the Sooners took the lead in the third via a two-run homer from Coleman, her seventh on the season, good for a tie of the team lead with junior Alyssa Brito.
Oklahoma poured in four more runs on five hits and an Auburn error in the fifth. Following a Coleman leadoff single, Jennings brought her home on the junior's sixth blast of the season. Two batters later, another OU All-American in Kinzie Hansen hit her sixth home run of 2023 to make it 6-1, OU through five.
The Sooners pushed the final run of the game across in the sixth via a Jennings sacrifice-fly RBI following a Coleman bunt single.
Bahl entered in relief in the six inning and retired six of the seven batters she faced with two coming via strikeout.
Coleman produced her second career four-hit game, good for a career best, while reaching base for the 38th consecutive game dating back to 2022. The leadoff hitter has been on a tear to start her junior season, batting .507 with a .639 on-base clip.
Seven Sooners collected a hit in the game with Coleman, Grace Lyons and Alynah Torres registering a multi-hit contest. Jennings paced OU with three RBI's to Coleman and Hansen's pair.
On the weekend, Oklahoma outscored the opposition 48-3 and improved their season run differential to 252-24. With three ranked wins over the weekend, OU moved to 10-0 versus top-25 competition on the season and have outscored ranked foes 86-12 with four run-rule victories.
Furthermore, Oklahoma completed the sweep of the Omni Hall of Fame Classic for the third consecutive season dating back to the tournament's inaugural edition in 2021, compiling a 14-0 record in the span. OU improved to 135-50 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex under head coach Patty Gasso, including a 56-10 mark since 2016 to go with four national titles.
The Sooners turn to Big 12 play starting next weekend, looking to win their 11th consecutive conference regular season crown in 2023. OU opens league play in Ames, Iowa, with a three-game series at Iowa State, March 24-26.
