T&F Prepped for Big 12s

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma track and field team is set to compete in the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas, Feb. 24-25.

"It's conference week," said head coach Tim Langford. "I'm excited. The team is prepared, and the coaching staff has done a phenomenal job of getting everybody ready. I just can't wait to see what happens this weekend. We've got scoring opportunities from freshman to super seniors. It's going to be phenomenal and we're going to move up on the national list."

Last year, the men's team finished in third place with 84 points, while the women's team finished in fifth place with 74 points.

The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday with multi events at 10 a.m. CT, followed by running and field events at 3:00 p.m. CT. On Saturday, multis will kick off the day at 11 a.m. CT, while field events start at 1 p.m. CT and running events at 2 p.m. CT.

The conference championship will be live streamed via Big 12 Now on ESPN+ starting at 10 a.m. CT on Friday and 11 a.m. CT on Saturday. Live results can be found on PT Timing.

IN THE RANKINGS

The men's squad is currently No. 23 in the USTFCCCA National Rankings with four event groups sitting in the top ten nationally:

No. 6: 400m
No. 8: Shot Put
No. 9: 60-meters & Long Jump

The women's squad is second in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Rankings and have four event groups that rank in the top-ten nationally:

No. 4: Triple Jump
No. 5: Shot Put
No. 6: Long Jump

ARKANSAS QUALIFIER REWIND

The Sooners sent a limited squad to Fayetteville and brough home a victory in the women's long jump and a number of additions to the OU record book.

Jasmine Akins was victorious in the women's long jump at 20-6.5 (6.26m).

Freshman David Warmington matched his personal best in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.03.

Next, Anass Mghari competed in the men's 800-meter race and finished in second place with a personal-best time of 1:48.45. His performance gives him the second-fastest time in OU history.

The men's 200-meter race saw Josh Bour claim fifth place after running a speedy time of 21.22.

To conclude the meet, Yazmine Wright collected a massive personal-best in the women's mile run with a time of 4:39.45, the second fastest time in school history.

UP NEXT

The Sooners with qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., March 10-11. The rest of the squad will prepare for their first outdoor meet at the Island Bahamas Relays, March 17-18.
