Sooners Host Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team hosts the ninth Schooner Fall Classic Sept. 24-26 at the Belmar Golf Club.
The three-day, 54-hole event will feature 15 teams and admission is free. The Sooners are joined by Baylor, Clemson, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa State, Houston, Louisville, North Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas State, Tulsa, UTSA and Virginia Tech.
Oklahoma opened the season at the Carmel Cup at the Pebble Beach Golf Links Sept. 2-4. The Sooners finished seventh and were led by Nina Lang, who tied for 24th. Mikahaela Fortuna joined Lang in the top 30, tying for 29th.
A pair of Sooners, Savannah Barber and Raychel Nelke, made their first appearances in the Crimson and Cream. Maria Fernanda Martinez and Meagan Winans also appeared in the season-opening lineup.
Fortuna, Barber, Maritnez, Nelke and Winans make up the Oklahoma lineup at the Schooner.
Four additional Sooners, Kaylee Vesely, Nina Lang, Gracie Mayo and Madison Smith, are competing as individuals in the field.

Teamed up to win the 6th U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Bal Championship ... Tied for 33rd at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
Maria Fernanda Martinez, R-Sr., Veracruz, Mexico: Opened the season in the lineup at the Carmel Cup ... Competed in 11 events (10 stroke play events) during 2021-22 … Posted a 73.81 scoring average … Tied for sixth at the Olde Stone Intercollegiate and earned her first collegiate top-10 finish (7-over, 223) … Earned T20th finish at The Bruzzy and finished the tournament with a 2-over 218 … Two rounds in the 60s … Named to the All-Big 12 Academic Second Team … Fired a career low 66 in the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate … Tied for 32nd at the Big 12 Championship (17-over, 230) … Competed at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional and tied for 54th (14-over, 230) ... Meagan Winans, So.., Richardson, Texas: Opened the season in the lineup at the Carmel Cup ... Competed in all 12 events (11 stroke-play events) for the Sooners in 2021-22… Opened the season tied for 28th at the Sam Golden Invitational (1-under, 215) … Led the Sooners at the Schooner Fall Classic and finished T21 (4-over, 214) … Recorded third consecutive top-30 finish at the Illini Invitational and tied for 27th (E, 216) …Fired a career-low 68 in the second round of the Clover Cup) … Competed in the NCAA Albuquerque Regional and tied for 56th (16-over, 230) … Three rounds in the 60s.
Raychel Nelke, Fr., Pocola, Okla.: Opened her Sooner career in the Oklahoma lineup at the Carmel Cup ... Attended Pocola High School ... Tallied four top-10 finishes on the AJGA circuit ... Finished sixth at the Accenture NW Arkansas Junior ... Third-place finish at the Westrock Coffee Junior Championship ... Winner of the 2020 Southern Hills Oklahoma Junior Masters, girls division.

All three rounds will be played at Belmar Golf Club (par 70, 6,109 yard course).
FORMAT
Fifty-four holes will be played over three days with 18 holes each day starting Saturday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. Pairing will tee off holes one and 10.
