Ludvigson Earns OU Women's Golf Award

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma women's golf program announced today that Dr. Carol Ludvigson is the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Carol Ludvigson OU Women's Golf Leadership Award.

Ludvigson, who was Oklahoma's head women's golf coach from 1985 to 2009, currently serves as OU's deputy athletics director/student-athlete experience.

"Carol has been an instrumental part of the Oklahoma women's golf program for 37-plus years as a coach and administrator," said OU head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "She continues to exemplify leadership today through all the work she does with current student-athletes."

The award was established to honor Ludvigson and to recognize current members of the Oklahoma women's golf program who demonstrate exemplary leadership both on and off the golf course.

"We are proud to announce this new award will be given yearly to a current women's golfer who demonstrates the characteristics she has modeled," said Drouin-Luttrell.

As displayed by Ludvigson, future winners of the award must bring positive attitude and energy to the team, hold teammates accountable, demonstrate integrity and embody a team-first mentality.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the first leadership award and for it to be named after me as well," said Ludvigson. "I have been blessed to not only have been taught by great leaders in my life but a chance to influence the student-athletes I have coached. I would like to thank coach Joan Blumenthal for believing in me and giving me and opportunity to pour into others as she did to me."

Ludvigson has served the University of Oklahoma athletics department for 37-plus years. She is in her 13th year aiding student-athletes as an administrator.

"Leadership has the ability to make a difference in all aspects of a person's life and I always took it to be an honor to teach the student-athletes I coached," said Ludvigson. "Thank you to all of the young ladies that I had the privilege to be in their lives. The sharing of their heart and soul has led me to be who I am today. I would not be the leader I am today without their love, support and grace.

Ludvigson previously served as the women's golf head coach for 24 seasons. From 1985 to 2009, she led OU to 31 tournament victories, including a Big Eight title in 1995 and a Big 12 championship in 2000. Ludvigson led the Sooners to five NCAA tournament appearances and was named co-national coach of the year in 1995.

As a student-athlete for the Sooners (1978-82), she was a four-year letterwinner and was a member of Oklahoma's 1981 Big Eight Championship team.

The award will be presented annual at the alumni reunion weekend and will be presented to Ludvigson on Nov. 5.
