44 Sooners Claim Big 12 Academic Honors

NORMAN — Oklahoma's men's and women's track and field teams placed 44 Sooners on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team. The conference announced the 346 student-athletes receiving the academic honors on Tuesday.

Of the 44 Sooners, 14 men and 25 women were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while five men were named to the second team.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria are expect percent of participation are also eligible.

Of the 346 student-athletes recognized by the conference, 202 were women (185 first team and 17 second team) and 144 men (120 first team and 24 second team).

To make the first team, the student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher, either cumulatively or for the previous two semesters. Second-team honorees carry a 3.00-3.19 GPA.

Nine Sooners earned special recognition for earning a 4.00 GPA: Jordan Gledhill, Faith Ette, Carson Hockersmith, Jordyn Kaplan, Paige Low, Madeline Medina, Dai'Lyn Merriweather, Payden Montana and Elise Welch.
