Sooners 6th After 36 holes at Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma women's golf moved to sixth following the second round of the 2022 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at The Clubs at Houston Oaks.

The Sooners entered the day eighth and fired a 17-over 284 Saturday. OU pushed past Texas Tech and are only seven strokes back of Iowa State.

"We've been playing in some of the toughest conditions we've ever seen and tomorrow is going to be no different," said Oklahoma women's golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We were very solid through 12 holes today and need to stay focused for all of the final 18."

Hannah Screen held a clean scorecard through six. She tallied a bogey on the seventh and moved back to even after a birdie on the eighth. Screen briefly went to 1-under through 11 before back-to-back bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes. The London, England product finished her day 2-over 73 and is tied for sixth.

Meagan Winans and Mikhaela Fortuna each finished the first 36 holes tied for 23rd.

Winans opened her round with a birdie and moved to 1-over after a double bogey on sixth. She responded with back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. The Richardson, Texas product finished her day 5-over 76. For the second-consecutive day, she was the only Sooner to finish under par in either the back or front nine, recording a 1-under 34 on the front nine.

Fortuna finished the front nine 3-over 38 and tallied her lone birdie of the round on the third hole. She recorded a 3-over 39 on the final nine and tallied a 6-over 77.

Maria Fernanda Martinez and Libby Winans finished the first 36 holes tied for 39th. Each fired 5-over 76s.

The Sooners have recorded the fourth best average on par 4s (4.28) and Screen is tied for the third-most birdies (6) through the first two rounds.
