March 30, 2022 | Track and Field

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma track and field redshirt junior Vernon Turner was named the men's Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Turner, the 2022 National Indoor High Jump Champion, broke his own outdoor program record over the weekend, jumping 7-6.50 (2.30 meters) to win the men's high jump at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

The mark of 7-6.50 moves him to the top of the Big 12 and NCAA, as well as tying him for first in the world for the 2022 season.

The accolade marks Oklahoma's third weekly honor of the 2022 season and second for the outdoor season.

Turner and the rest of the Sooners will take a week off before traveling to Miami, Fla., for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 8-9.
