NORMAN — OU redshirt senior Jocelyn Alo was named the Big 12 Player of the Week following her record-setting weekend at the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu. The conference announced the weekly honors Tuesday.
Alo hit the recording-breaking home run No. 96 on Friday to break the tie with Lauren Chamberlain to become the NCAA All-Time Home Run Leader.
Alo set the record in her home state of Hawaii as the Sooners swept through the Rainbow Wahine Classic. The Sooner slugger hit No. 96 on a 2-1 count on Friday in an 11-0 (six innings) win over host Hawaii. Alo went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI.
The Hauula, Hawaii, native finished a combined 7-for-9 (.778) on the weekend with three extra-base hits, seven RBIs and one historic homer. She slugged 1.333, held an on-base percentage of .867 and helped lead the Sooners to a 4-0 performance, beating Baylor, Cal and Hawaii all via run-rule.
Alo and the Sooners return to the diamond this weekend in OKC to play in the Hall of Fame Classic, March 18-20, at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. OU, the host school, meets Sam Houston, Indiana, San Diego, Houston and Iowa in the tournament.
Tickets are still on sale via SoonerSports.com/tickets and the OU games can be seen on SoonerSports.tv and heard on the radio via The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM/1560 AM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app with OU play-by-play announcer Chris Plank on the call.
