Wells Ties OU Single-Season Home Run Record in 11-1 Win

NORMAN  — Behind four home runs at the plate and a five-inning complete game from freshman Allyssa Parker, No. 1/1 Oklahoma (42-6, 15-3 SEC) defeated No. 6/8 Arkansas (36-8, 11-7 SEC), 11-1, in five innings Sunday, April 19.

The win clinched a series victory for the Sooners, who have now won all six league series this season. Kendall Wells, Isabela Emerling, Gabbie Garcia and Abby Dayton went deep, bringing Oklahoma to 158 home runs for the season. As a team, the Sooners are just four homers away from setting the NCAA single-season team home run record. At the individual level, Wells tied Jocelyn Alo for the program's single-season home run record at 34.

Kendall Wells brought OU immediate energy on defense in the first, throwing out leadoff batter Reagan Johnson at second on a ball in the dirt. Allyssa Parker stranded one runner by fanning Tianna Bell.

After Ella Parker walked, Isabela Emerling hammered a 0-0 pitch 269 feet to left center for a two-run homer, giving the Sooners a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

OU really put a dent into its eventual run total for the day, plating five runs in the second inning. Dayton delivered a towering two-run home run inside the right field foul pole and Wells crushed a three-run homer to left center.

Allyssa Parker spun zeros in the next frames as OU reached run-rule territory with a four-run fourth. Ella Parker started a two-out rally with a double off the left field wall. Wells reached on a sharply hit infield single and Emerling dropped in an RBI single to right center. Garcia completed the scoring with a line drive three-run home run just over the wall in left field.

Arkansas scored one run on two singles and a walk in the fifth, but Allyssa Parker closed things with a strikeout of Kailey Wyckoff.
