NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma track and field head coach Tim Langford announced the 2022-23 track schedule Friday afternoon.
This year's schedule includes three regular-season home meets, a trip to the Grand Bahama Islands and the Big 12 Outdoor Championships being held in Norman.
"I'm excited about this year's indoor and outdoor track competition schedule," said Langford. "We have put great detail into selecting the right venues and competition environments to maximize our performances."
The Sooners will start the indoor season Dec. 10 at the K-State Winter Classic. After a month-long break, OU will start 2023 at the Arkansas Open on Jan. 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The following week, The Sooners will host their first meet of the season, the J.D. Martin Invitational, on Jan. 21.
The team will spend four weeks on the road from Jan. 27 through the end of the indoor season, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, Jan 27-28 (TTU Open & Multis), then Albuquerque, N.M., Feb. 3-4 (NM Collegiate Classic), followed by Chicago, Ill., Feb. 10-11 (Wisconsin Midwest Invite), and concluding in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 17 at the Arkansas Qualifier.
The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held in Lubbock, Texas, Feb. 24-26, hosted by Texas Tech. At last year's Big 12 Indoor Championships, returning athletes Olivia Lueking (pole vault), Payden Montana (shot put), and Vernon Turner (high jump) all brought home conference titles.
Following Big 12s, those who qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., March 10-11.
Outdoor season will kick off in the Grand Bahamas Islands for the Island Bahamas Relay, March 17-18. Then the Sooners will return to competition in Austin, Texas, March 29-April 1 for the Texas Relays.
The team will spend back-to-back weekends at home, hosting the Sooner Invitational, April 14-15, and the John Jacobs Invitational, April 21-22. The squad will then travel to Lubbock, Texas, April 28-29 (Corky/Crofoot Shootout) and Fayetteville, Ark., May 6 for the Arkansas Twilight.
Postseason will begin with the Sooners hosting Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Norman, May 12-14. At last year's Big 12 Championship in Lubbock, the men's squad claimed second place, while the women took home third place.
The NCAA West Preliminary is slated for May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif., followed by the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, June 7-10.
"I believe we have a great variety of locations that will give every Sooner fan an opportunity to come support the program," said Langford. "See you soon!"
