WCWSĀ STORYLINES

• No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma (50-2, 16-1 Big 12) continues its quest for a fifth national title this week as the Sooners make their fifth consecutive and 14th overall appearance at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

• The WCWS begins Thursday as the Sooners play the first game of the tourney versus James Madison (39-2, 17-1 CAA) at 11 a.m. CT.

• Thursday's game is available to watch on ESPN.

• The action can be heard on The Franchise (107.7 FM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app with OU play-by-play announcer Chris Plank and alum Destinee Martinez on the call. All OU games can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 84 and on Westwood One Sports Radio.

• Tickets for the WCWS are available via NCAAtickets.com

BACK TO OKC

•The Sooners return to the Women's College World Series for the fifth year in a row and ninth time in the last 10 seasons. No other program in the country has made as many trips to the WCWS as Oklahoma since the 2011 season.

• Oklahoma is making its 14th overall appearance at the WCWS, tied for the third-most showings all-time. The Sooners trail UCLA (30 appearances) and Arizona (24) and share third all-time with Washington (14).

• Overall, this season marks Oklahoma's 27th consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason, including every year under head coach Patty Gasso. Only Arizona holds a longer active streak (34 straight), while the Sooners are tied with Washington for second-longest run.

• In 2019, the last season the tournament was played, OU reached its 13th WCWS in program history, culminating in a runner-up finish in the championship series. WithĀ four national titles (2000, '13, '16, '17) Oklahoma trails only UCLA (12) and Arizona (8) for most in NCAA history, and no other team has more than two.

EXIT 132A

• The Sooners will make a familiar trip up I-35 North for the Women's College World Series, traveling less than 30 miles from Marita Hynes Field to USA Hall of Fame Stadium.

OU is 7-0 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium this year, defeating Houston, Kansas City and Liberty (twice) in the Hall of Fame Classic, March 12-14 prior to winning three games at the Big 12 Softball Championship (Baylor, Texas Tech, OSU). Oklahoma has won 33 of its last 39 games there.

• All time, Oklahoma is 113-46 under Patty Gasso in Oklahoma City, including regular season and postseason games.Ā

LAST TIME OUT

• The top-seeded Sooners won the NCAA Norman Super Regional over 16-seed Washington in two games to punch their ticket to the WCWS.

• Oklahoma won game one, 4-2, before eliminating the Huskies with a dominant 9-1, run-rule victory in game two in five innings.

• Senior Jocelyn Alo cemented her Player of the Year candidacy with a 4-for-5, two home run, four RBI weekend against fellow POTY candidate Gabbie Plain from UW.

• OU's pitching duo of freshman Nicole May and redshirt senior Shannon Saile shut down the Husky offense, surrendering a combined three runs on 11 hits. Both May (Friday) and Saile (Saturday) threw complete games, with each striking out five in their wins.

• Redshirt senior Nicole Mendes made the series-clinching grab on Saturday in right field, drifting back to the wall to collect the final out and send OU back to OKC.

A LOOK AT THE DUKES

• The Sooners and James Madison Dukes meet for the first time in program history Thursday morning.

• The Dukes, winners of the Colonial Athletic Association, come to OKC after winning the Knoxville Regional and Columbia Super Regional. They hold a 5-1 record in the NCAA Tournament, with their only loss coming to Supers-host Missouri last Saturday by a count of 7-1.

• The Dukes are lead by redshirt senior Odicci Alexander. Alexander, a two-way player that has thrown 117.0 innings on the year and holds a 2.09 ERA. Alexander has been exceptional in the postseason, striking out 48 through regionals and supers to just 17 strikeouts in 37.3 IP.

SOONERS VS. THE FIELD

• Alabama: The Sooners and Crimson Tide have met 12 times in the postseason, most recently facing off three times in the 2019 WCWS with OU taking two of the three games. After a 3-2 OU win in the team's opening game at the World Series, Bama advanced out of the losers bracket to beat OU once before OU turned around in the second game of the doubleheader to beat the Tide and advance to the Championship Series

• Oklahoma State: Bedlam for the second consecutive WCWS is a possibility if both the Sooners and Cowgirls win their respective games on Thursday (OSU vs. Georgia). The Sooners lead the all-time series with Oklahoma State with an 96-71 record. The Sooners have more wins over the Cowgirls than any other team in program history and head coach Patty Gasso has more wins vs. OSU than any other team with 67. OU has won 29 of the past 31 matchups
