NORMAN —The Oklahoma women's golf team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Columbus Regional, set for May 10-12, it was announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday. The Sooners are the No. 9 seed at the regional, which will be played at the Ohio State University Golf Club with Duke as the No. 1 seed.
It's the Sooners' fourth consecutive regionals appearance and ninth in 11 postseasons under head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell.
"We are so grateful to play in the Columbus Regional this season," Drouin-Luttrell said. "We've had a solid year so far and can't wait to see what's next for us as a team. The regional tournament is another chapter in our book, and we're ready to compete."
The Sooners are playing their best golf of the season, fresh off a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship and tallying a top-five placement at every event this season other than one.
"Being able to continue to play in May is always our goal, and after everything was stopped last year, it made us hungry to get back and push each other," the 12th-year head coach said. "We've got one of the top-scoring averages in the nation and know we can compete with anyone out there, and we look forward to the opportunity."
Oklahoma has rewritten the record book under Drouin-Luttrell, setting the top 12 scoring averages in program history since she arrived in 2009. This year's Sooner squad is highlighted by juniors Hannah Screen and Mikhaela Fortuna and owns the second-lowest team average in OU history.
The Sooners have advanced from the regional into the NCAA Championship four times since 2009, anchored by three top-10 national finishes from 2012-2014.
In its most recent regional appearance, Oklahoma hosted at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club as current senior Kaitlin Milligan finished in a tie for first.
The regional opens play on May 12 and will be contested over 54 holes, with the top six squads advancing to the NCAA Championship.
