OU Closes Day Two of NCAAs

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. — Five Sooners competed at day two of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Sooners collected one first team All-America honor and two second team All-America accolades on the day.
Redshirt junior Vernon Turner and junior Chris Banks competed for OU in the men's high jump, earning first team All-America and second team All-America status, respectively. Turner cleared 7-3 (2.21m) in the event, securing a fourth-place finish. The redshirt junior's performance notched him his second first team All-America recognition in his indoor career, the first coming in 2018. Banks recorded a mark of 6-9.75 (2.08m), taking 15th.
In the men's shot put, senior Cooper Campbell earned second team All-America honors. Campbell threw 60-7.75 (18.48m), finishing in 15th.
Senior Demarius Smith competed in the prelims of the men's 200 meters, running a 20.97 to finish 11th in the event.
Junior Kristo Simulask represented the Sooners in day one action, competing in the men's heptathlon. He closed out the first day with 2,346 points, recording his best performance in the long jump with a 23-4 (7.11m) mark. The junior didn't record a height in the high jump and didn't compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault or 1,000 meters.
Senior Essence Thomas and sophomore Mikeisha Welcome are slated to compete in the women's triple jump at 5 p.m. CT, Saturday night.
