NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team is set for two non-conference matches this weekend with No. 25 Oklahoma State at home on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by No. 31 Texas Tech on Sunday at noon in Dallas.
The Sooners (7-6) won their first match of the week on Wednesday, defeating UTSA 4-3 in Norman. After dropping the doubles point, OU picked up singles wins from
Mark Mandlik,
Justin Schlageter,
Welsh Hotard and
Mason Beiler to put away the Roadrunners.
OU moved up two spots to No. 26 in the latest ITA team rankings.
Mason Beiler is OU's representative in the singles release, where he is tabbed No. 69 nationally.
Previewing the Pokes
No. 25 Oklahoma State enters Friday's matchup at 5-3 on the season and comes off a 4-1 win over Memphis on Tuesday in Stillwater.
Four Cowboys hold ITA singles rankings in No. 49 Matej Vocel, No. 61 Dominik Kellovksy, No. 86 Henrik Korsgaard and No. 101 Emile Hudd. In doubles, Vocel and Kellovsky are No. 3 in the nation.
The last Bedlam contest was March 29, 2019 in Norman, where OU prevailed 6-1.
Scouting the Red Raiders
No. 31 Texas Tech is 6-2 on the year and has won its last four matches consecutively. The Red Raiders will face No. 35 San Diego on Friday in Dallas.
Three players in the Tech lineup are ranked in the ITA singles release: No. 37 Parker Wynn, No. 93 Ilgiz Valiev and No. 115 Reed Collier.
OU last met Texas Tech in the 2019 Big 12 Tennis Championships quarterfinals in Lawrence, Kan., when the Sooners shut out the Red Raiders 4-0 to advance.
