NORMAN – Three Sooners earned SEC postseason awards with senior Luis Alvarez was named First Team All-SEC, sophomore Oscar Lacides earned Second Team All-SEC recognition, and freshman Johan Rodriguez was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
Alvarez has amassed 123 total collegiate wins while reaching a career-high singles ranking of No. 30 and career-high doubles ranking of No. 4. In singles, he holds a 23-7 overall record, including a 15-4 mark in dual matches and a 10-3 record in SEC play, with an 9-3 record at the No. 1 position and a 6-1 mark at No. 2. He has earned eight wins over ranked opponents and put together a seven-match win streak during the middle of the season.
In doubles, Alvarez achieved a career-high ranking of No. 4 while compiling a 16-8 overall record, including a 13-7 mark in dual matches and a 7-5 record in SEC play, with a 10-5 record at the No. 1 doubles position. He also recorded five wins over ranked doubles opponents. Additionally, he qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in singles and was named ITA Central Region singles co-champion.
Oscar Lacides earned SEC Player of the Week honors on April 8 while compiling a 16-9 overall singles record, including a 9-7 mark in dual matches and a 7-5 record in SEC play. Competing primarily at the No. 2 singles position, he posted an 8-3 record and currently holds a five-match win streak at that spot, with six wins in his last seven matches.
In doubles, he has recorded an 12-9 overall mark, including an 9-6 record in dual play and a 6-3 record in SEC competition. He also qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships in singles and was named ITA Central Region singles co-champion.
Oklahoma freshman Johan Rodriguez has put together an outstanding debut season with the Sooners. He recorded 16 singles wins in the regular season, including 10 against SEC opponents, and played a key role in Oklahoma's 18-6 overall record and 10-5 mark in conference play. His performance earned him four consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Rodriguez closed the regular season with victories in nine of his last 10 matches and four wins over nationally ranked opponents.
The Colombia native also contributed eight doubles wins, supporting OU's strong doubles play throughout the year. Soon after his arrival to Norman, Rodriguez teamed with Orel Kimhi to win the ITA Central Region Championship, advancing to the final and claiming the title to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships. Across fall and spring competition, he has totaled 21 singles wins and 34 combined victories, ranking second on the team in singles wins. Primarily competing at the No. 4 singles position, Rodriguez posted an impressive 12-2 record and played a consistent role in Oklahoma's dual matches.
His contributions helped power the Sooners to 12 wins over nationally ranked opponents, including seven against top-15 teams and three upsets of top-10 programs. Oklahoma began its postseason campaign as the No. 4 seed in the SEC Championship after finishing conference play in a three-way tie for third place in the SEC.
