NORMAN – The No. 8 Oklahoma men's tennis team begins its postseason campaign in the SEC Championship as the No. 4 seed. The Sooners are slated to begin the competition in the quarterfinals against five-seeded Texas A&M on Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m. CT.

Oklahoma earned the No. 4 seed in the SEC Championships after completing the regular season on an eight-match win streak. The streak included five wins over top-15 teams and three wins over teams ranked in the ITA top-10.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners topped off regular-season competition with a win over No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. OU won the doubles point to begin singles with an advantage and went on to win three singles matches to close out the top-10 matchup while only giving up one point.

The win against the Aggies was OU's third top-10 win of the season and pushed the Sooners into a three-way tie for a third-place finish in the SEC.

IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma sits at a season-high ranking of No. 8 in the most recent ITA rankings. Four Sooners earned singles rankings with Luis Alvarez leading the group at No. 35 followed by Oscar Lacides at No. 61. Orel Kimhi is No. 77 and Johan Rodriguez is No. 109.

On the doubles side, Alvarez and teammate Bruno Nhavene sit at a career-high No. 4 and Alejandro Melero and Hank Trondson are No. 61.

PLAYER TO WATCH

Junior Asahi Harazaki earned the April 14 SEC Player of the Week honor after clinching the final two regular-season matches for the Sooners. In the competition against Arkansas, Harazaki closed out the sweep with a straight-set win on court six. Just two days later, Harazaki played a crucial role in OU's win against the Aggies when he won the clinching doubles point and later delivered the closing singles point in a three-set battle at the six line.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Oklahoma returns to competition against the Aggies after topping the then-No. 8 squad in the regular-season finale, 4-1. The victory was the third top-10 result in the Sooners' eight-match win streak. The win put OU in a three-way tie to finish the SEC regular season in third place.

Theo Papamalamis leads the group at the No. 10 spot followed by Kholo Montsi at No. 41 and Alexander Frusina at No. 100.

On the doubles side, Papamalamis and Togan Tokac are the only ranked pair at No. 5. Texas A&M holds a 18-8 season record and a 11-4 league record.
