LUBBOCK, Texas — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams closed out day one of the Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday night.
The Sooners advanced three athletes to four final events that will take place tomorrow. The men's and women's squads conclude the first day in fourth and eighth place, respectively.
Action will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT, beginning with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Live results can be found on PT Timing. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ beginning at 2 p.m.
Juniors Madison Langley-Walker and Kristo Simulask got action started for the Sooners. The two competed in the pentathlon and heptathlon, respectively. Langley-Walker closed out her event with 3,808 points, claiming fourth. Langley-Walker took first in the high jump with a clearing of 5-9.25 (1.76m). Additionally, she recorded a personal record in the 800-meter dash, crossing the line at 2:29.47. Simulask will head into day two with 3,140 points and in second place. Simulask finished top four in all four events competed, taking second in high jump and shot put.
On the track, senior Jasher Foster recorded a personal-best 7.99 in the men's 60-meter hurdles, claiming eighth and advancing to tomorrow's final. Fellow senior Garry Williams joined Foster in the race, clocking in at 8.18 for 11th.
In the prelims of the men's 60-meter dash, senior Demarius Smith took second with a time of 6.68. Smith's performance secured him a spot in final competition tomorrow. Sophomore Alajuwan Robinson ran a personal-record 6.80 and finished in 10th.
Junior Jordyn Kaplan advanced to the women's 1,000-meter final after running a personal-best 2:53.82 and securing seventh place.
Smith qualified for his second finals race after recording a personal-best 20.82 in the men's 200-meter dash. Smith claimed second in the event. Robinson finished in 10th with a 21.5.
Senior Lauren Jones and sophomore Geraldine Udo represented the Sooners in the women's weight throw, claiming third and eighth place, respectively. Jones threw for a mark of 64-5.75 (19.65m), while Udo threw a personal-best 58-10 (17.93m). Udo's performance placed her in the eighth spot on OU's all-time top-10 list.
On the men's side of the event, all three Sooners recorded personal-best performances. Junior Bayley Campbell led the way with a second-place finish and 64-3.75 (19.60m) mark. Senior Edward Jeans finished one spot behind Campbell, throwing 63-8.75 (19.42m). Sophomore Diego Trevino threw 54-11.25 (16.74m), earning 11th.
Senior Rayvon Allen finished third in the men's long jump, leaping 25-0.75 (7.63m). Allen was joined by Williams in the event. Williams jumped 22-7.75 (6.90m), finishing in ninth.
On the women's side of the long jump, senior Essence Thomas recorded a jump of 20-9 (6.32m), finishing in sixth. Junior Symone Washington finished one spot behind Thomas, jumping a personal-best 20-5.25 (6.23m). Washington's mark moves her from seventh to fifth on OU's all-time top-10 list. Sophomore Mikeisha Welcome finished in 12th with a leap of 19-8.75 (6.01m).
Seniors Colleen Clancy and Abby Bilsbury competed in the women's pole vault for OU. Clancy cleared 13-2.25 (4.02m), securing seventh. Bilsbury finished 11th with a mark of 12-2.5 (3.72m).
In the prelims of the men's 1,000-meter run, redshirt freshman Graham Santilli secured 10th with a personal-best 2:31.59, while junior Derek King finished one spot behind Santilli. King recorded a personal-best 2:32.84 in the event.
Redshirt sophomore Jordan Gledhill finished prelims of the men's mile in 4:19.89, taking 11th.
Senior Camri Austin ran an 8:48 in the 60-meter hurdles prelims, claiming 13th. In the women's 60-meter dash prelims, junior Kennedy Blackmon and senior Ja'Leesa Giles finished back-to-back, taking 12th and 13th, respectively. Blackmon recorded a time of 7.53, while Giles ran a 7.56.
In the prelims of the women's 600 yards, senior Jai'Lyn Merriweather ran a 1:23.94, claiming 11th. On the men's side of the event, redshirt junior Johnelle Joe completed the race in 1:12.51 for 13th place.
Blackmon continued action in the prelims of the women's 400-meter dash, coming in at 56.49 to earn 13th place. On the men's side of the event, freshman Salim Epps took ninth in his Big 12 Championships debut, recording a time of 47.38.
Joe returned to the track to compete in the prelims of the men's 800-meter run, concluding the race in 2:00.41. His time was good for an 11th-place finish.
Giles was the lone Sooner to compete in the prelims of the women's 200-meter dash. She finished top 10 with a time of 24.15.
The women's distance-medley relay team made up of Kaplan, sophomore Nia Sims, sophomore Levi Gladd and Hockersmith finished in the top 10 with a time of 12:29.08. The men's team consisting of Santilli, Foster, King and Gledhill clocked in at 10:33.53, taking eighth.

The Sooners with qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13. The rest of the squad will prepare for outdoor action that is set to take place on March 20 at the TCU Invitational in Fort Wort, Texas.
