T&F Set for Big 12s

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete in the 2021 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27, in Lubbock, Texas.

The meet is scheduled to begin with multi-competition events at 10 a.m. CT on Friday. Both field and running events will get going at 3 p.m. Friday's action is expected to conclude at 8 p.m. Day two will pick up with multi events at 11 a.m., while field events will begin at 1 p.m. Action on the track will begin at 2 p.m. with the two-day meet scheduled to conclude at 5:55 p.m. Awards will begin at 6:20 p.m. The Sooners have 49Ā athletes slated to compete.Ā 

The championships event will be live streamed starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday via Big 12 NOW on ESPN+. ESPN+ coverage will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Live results can be found on PT Timing.Ā

MATADOR QUALIFIER REWIND

OklahomaĀ competed two student-athletes atĀ the Matador Qualifier in Lubbock, Texas, lastĀ Friday evening.

The SoonersĀ claimed two first-place finishes and broke two meet records.Ā 

Sophomore Payden MontanaĀ got things started for the duo, taking first in the women's shot put and setting the meet best. Montana's throw of 52-9.5 (16.09m) bestedĀ the previous meet record set by Annina Brandenburg from Abilene Christian on Feb. 21, 2020. Brandenburg's meet record was 51-10.5 (15.81m). The sophomore broke the markĀ in her third throw of 52-8.25 (16.06m) but recorded her farthest mark of 52-9.5 (16.09m) in her last throw.Ā 

On the men's side of the event, senior Cooper CampbellĀ also broke the meet record and took home a first-place finish. Campbell threw for a mark of 61-4.25 (18.70m), securing the win in his fifth throw of the event. The senior broke the record previously set by Eric Kicinski of Texas Tech on Feb. 15, 2019 in his first throw of 60-8.5 (18.50m). Kicinski's record was 60-4 (18.39m).

The Sooners with qualifying marks will travel to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13. The rest of the squad will prepare for outdoor action that is set to take place on March 20 at the TCU Invitational in Fort Wort, Texas.Ā
